Trained VON volunteers are matched with individuals in the community afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementia to provide respite for caregivers. Activities may include conversation, outings, assistance with shopping, encouragement or help with hobbies and interests, activities such as walking, and so much more.
Caregiver Training, Information and Education
Peer groups and/or one-on-one education and training assists family members, service providers and caregivers dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). Information on various topics relating to ADRD is also available in our community resource library.
Caregiver Support & Counselling
One-on-one or group support and counselling is offered for caregivers and families either in the home, by telephone or in the VON office. Various support groups, facilitated by a program coordinator, are held monthly to allow caregivers to share their feelings, problems, ideas and information with others who are in similar circumstances.
This program is available in Middlesex County.
Caregiver Information and Support
VON staff and volunteers provide information and support to caregivers of seniors and adults with disabilities. This may be through one-on-one consultation or in a group setting.
This program is available in the City of London.
